Goats, swine and rye are the order of the day in Woodfork, although that is not its most notable trait. A generation ago, the reeve was a man of foresight, who took up contributions from the tenants to send off a handful of their young to apprenticeships with craftsmen elsewhere. In a few years time, those young men returned, bringing decent skills with them; Woodfork has a pair of blacksmiths and a woodcrafter who takes advantage of the ample timber available. What he does not use is hauled to Heighbridge, to be put in the stream there and transported downstream.
