Origin

AB-4 is an advanced version of the more common M3 medical droid, developed by <<someone>>. Although the AB series has rarely been seen in service, limited mainly to <<someone's location somewhere>>, they are a recognizable version of the M3 series. AB-4 herself is unique even among her series, however. Her datacore was migrated from an EW-3 midwife droid, previously designated EW-3Y (also known to some as Tanby, due to the EW-3's alternate designation, the Chroon-Tan B-Machine), found to have faulty programming giving her a low opinion of most biologicals' survivability.

<<Someone>> took advantage of the quirks in Tanby's programming to develop an AB series droid equipped to end life as easily as preserve it. AB-4 features a chassis modified for heavy combat, but <<someone>> took care to hide this capability, presenting AB-4 as just another droid of her series.

In truth, <<someone>> is a member of the Rebel Alliance, and <<they>> built AB-4 to support the most dangerous of Rebel missions while maintaining a low profile in Empire-controlled territory. <<Someone>> regards AB-4 as <<their>> greatest creation to date, affectionately referring to her as Abby.
