Every bard has a selection of songs and tales about mortal encounters with the elusive and enchanting creatures of faery. To some bards, these stories are more than merely stories in an entertainer's arsenal - they are a road map to powers strange and wondrous. Such bards are always enchanted by woodland bowers and vistas of the wild, prone to following flights of fancy and strange, luminous mists while traveling the world.

In many ways, such a bard is in love with the romance of the otherworldly. He is not ignorant of its dangers, of course - indeed, even these hold some measure of allure, for the perils of the fey are often overcome not through brute force, but through cleverness, beauty, charm, and skill in art. These bards cannot help themselves, and they would not trade the magic of the world they seek for anything.

Such a bard may have encountered denizens of the Feywild at some point in childhood or young adulthood, or they may simply be enchanted by the tales they've heard. Some elves and half-elves feel the pull of the lands of faery deep in their soul, and they express this longing best through their art, while they search the world for its truths.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College o'the Green at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with two of the following Skills: Arcana, Insight, Nature, Persuasion. You also understand the virtues of herbs and plants, gaining proficiency with the Herbalism Kit.

Enchanting Tune

Also at 3rd level, you understand the secrets of the fey who use song to overwhelm the minds and senses of mortals. If you are playing a musical instrument when casting any Enchantment or Illusion spell, you may spend a Combat Inspiration die. One target of that spell has its saving throw against that spell penalized by an amount equal to the result of that roll. This can only affect a single target, even if the spell affects multiple individuals.

Parting the Mists

Starting at 6th level, you may play a musical instrument and command the mists that separate the mortal world from the Feywild to part for but a moment, allowing to cross quickly from one place and emerge elsewhere. You may cast the spell misty step as a bonus action while playing a musical instrument. You recover this ability when you take a short or long rest.

Song of the Feywild

At 14th level, you tap into the primal fey heartbeat of the Feywild, a mystical pattern that you discover as a song never before heard. This has several effects:

  • You gain the druidcraft cantrip. You must play a chord on a musical instrument or whistle a part of the tune in order to use this.
  • You gain the Ritual Caster (Druid) feat, save that you may learn new druid rituals by reading (and destroying) scrolls. These spells are not placed in a book, but are inscribed in your very essence. Each such spell requires a musical instrument to cast the rituals.
  • Add the following spells to your bardic spell list: druidcraft (cantrip) • conjure woodland beings (4th) • contact other plane (5th) • conjure fey (6th) • plane shift (7th)
    • The above spells interact only with the Feywild and its denizens. When casting, you must be playing a musical instrument, and mists suddenly rise in the area and part like a veil as part of the spell's effects.
  • You gain an additional Spell Known slot that may only be used for one of the above spells.
