L4N-T15 came online at a XX factory producing Assault Droids for the Imperial Navy; Though not a standard Assault Droid.  L4 was created by special request of a client, YY, along with 14 other models.  Designed to be Modular and Highly upgradable for testing and modification purposes.  Each of the 15 Prototype Droids was modified with different software and hardware combinations to test various experimental technologies currently in development.

Of the 15, 3 exploded attempting to use experimental weaponry, 2 were destroyed by other droids testing weaponry, 2 more fried every circuit in their bodies due to faulty software, 2… violently destroyed themselves.. screaming in ‘agony’, and 1 went missing outright from the testing facility after testing experimental stealth technology.  The remaining 5 survived their “birth”, and the subsequent tests.  Unfortunately, before the technology could be put into production, YY’s creditors caught up with them and the company was ordered liquidated to pay its debts.  No one was willing to risk the credits they were owed on untested technology so the Droids were slated to be decommissioned and sold off as well.  The news that the droids were to be dismantled did not sit well with, Tawin Mar, the Lead Programmer on the L4N Project.  Mar was furious at the notion that all his years of hard work were about to be torn into pieces before his eyes over some credits.

He rushed to the Lab upon hearing the news of the foreclosure and began frantically attempting to alter and reprogram the surviving L4N’s to disguise them as anything else.  4 of the 5 Droids were easily altered, being not much larger than your average Protocol Droid in bulk.  T15 was another story; Easily larger than even an average Assault droid.  Tawin Mar barely had time to finish reworking the first four when Security Forces arrived to secure YY’s assets for sale. Mar hurriedly secured the labs blast doors and rushed to alter T15’s programming to the only thing at hand; A large Mechanic/Lifter Droid.

It worked.  T15 was listed as a Mechanic and sold as such to a Droid Dealer in the Durallian Sector.  However, things weren’t quite so smooth for T15 in his new life.  His prototype Frame contained several sealed systems that frustrated every attempt to open, examine, or remove.  Originally to prevent industrial espionage, they were now saving T15 from being lost to oblivion.  Unfortunately, the prototype system, seeing the altered programming (and restraining bolt) as an Error, kept trying to override them and return T15’s systems to their original state.  This caused no end of frustration to the poor Droid Dealer who couldn’t keep this strange Droid in line. T15’s talent with all things mechanical was the only thing keeping him from the scrap heap, but after a particularly violent attempt to open/remove one of T15’s Secure Systems (with a spanner-wrench), the Droid Dealer had finally had enough and sold T15 off to the next person through the door.  A Bothan Starship Captain, who wasn’t even looking for a Droid, just some replacement parts.  The sucker had no idea what he’d just gotten himself into.
