The Cloister

The oldest most mysterious location in Korhash, The Cloister is home to the wisest and most powerful magical practitioners in the land. It is extremely difficult for the average mortal to gain membership into The Cloister as the challenges to join are deadly and nearly impossible to overcome. It is led by a single voice, the Magu-Pati, under the guidance of the elders (Masters) of the order. For the last 40 years Krazar-Shkul a teifling sorcerer of terrible power--a prodigy of his age--leads the order with a subtle strength that is unmistakable and without question. He is a kind man, but not to be trifled with.

The building itself has been imbued with old magics for its protection:

  • Creatures that use the ethereal plane cannot pass through its walls nor can any practitioner teleport through them (outside of the use of a permanent, sanctioned teleportation circle).
  • The minds and senses of intruders are twisted and made docile by unseen forces.
  • The Outer walls have been warded against magical and non-magical attacks.
  • It is said that the interior of the building is larger than the exterior walls would normally allow.

Levels of Power

The Cloister is organized by level of Mastery:

  • Aspirant:The first and lowest level of the order. These aspirants have little to no power within the cloister, are not considered members, and are more often than not entitled people of privilege from all around the continent who delight in learning what amounts to only the most basic levels of spellcasting.
  • Novice:A novice has proven themselves to be proficient in beginning magics and has been accepted into intermediate levels of spellcasting. While they still lack membership in the cloister, there tends to be more serious practitioners at the novice level, in small part to the sheer cost of attending these classes.
  • Apprentice Magi:Spellcasters that have caught the eye of a member of The Cloister are invited to study with them as an apprentice for at most a year and a day ( days) studying in preparation for the Azar-Haq "Trial by Fire/Fire of Truth", a deadly rite-of-passage that most Apprentice Magi do not survive. Apprentice Magi that make it through the Azar-Haq are offered membership into the order and commit to 1,001 days of service in exchange for free instruction in advanced spellcasting and arcane lore, as well as room and board at the Cloister at a fine level for the time of their service.
  • Magi:After passing the Azar-Haq (Fire of Truth)
  • Master:They teach and have rights to a seat on the council of elders.
  • Arch-Magi:They teach and have the authority to begin other schools under the banner of the Cloister. A truly rare level.
