The Harbingers of the Final Breath are an association of smugglers, cut-throats and assassins. They lair in the deepest, remote parts of the bayous along the eastern part of the Yellow River, with representatives in both Bourbon and Rana. Indeed, it is said that the Harbingers go out of their way to help maintain the war between those two city-states, as they garner a great deal of wealth from the ongoing conflict.

The Harbingers are led by three families, who vie among themselves for dominance and territory. These families are prone to occasional infighting, but for the most part representatives of the three families manage to keep the peace among them.

Anyone in the family that manages to enlighten their Essence - whether through Exaltation or otherwise - receives an invitation from the Momus, the master of the true Harbingers. No one truly knows who or what the Momus is; some claim he is a Fair Folk, others say he is the god of the bayou, and yet others claim he is one of the wicked Deathlords. Regardless of who or what he is, the Momus commands the loyalty of those who are chosen as his Harbingers, even above their birth families.

The Harbingers practice two martial arts styles, in deadly combination: the Crashing Wave style (aka Terrestrial Hero style) and the Ill Lily style.
