History
Ethnicity: Illuskan + Sun elven
Founded: 1475 DR

House Sandhor is still ruled by its founding patriarch, the son of an elven bladesinger and his wife who established a holding in the northern edge of the Westwood in the late 1200s, turning it into a waystation for many elven folk traveling through the area, particularly those who were bound for Waterdeep to meet the grey ships at Midsummer. During the upheaval following the Wailing Years, Bessaer presented himself to the nobility and Lords of Waterdeep with a petition to be elevated to lordhood. House Sandhor was the last of the nobles to be elevated in the old way, just before the purchasing of titles began in 1480 DR.

The house maintains a variety of farming and vineyard holdings in the land between the Westwood and Kryptgarden Wood, nestled up against the protective foothills of the Sword Mountains. The family's farms provide a great deal of the food that feeds Waterdeep and Neverwinter, and the sword-and-thyrsus mark of Sandhor family wines, beers, ciders, and brandies are well-known throughout the North. The family also maintains a private tradition of wizardry, teaching its magically-capable members the elven arts of bladesinging. These family members are often adventurers.

Members of the Family

  • Lord Bessaer Sandhor: Patriarch (Renown 10) • 112 years. A half-elf often mistaken for a full-blooded elf, Lord Ruldrin hates that his House is usually lumped in with those Houses who purchased their titles. The eldest of a half-dozen siblings, Ruldrin is accustomed to the weight of responsibility. He is very proud of his accomplishments, particularly in convincing the frequently-racist nobles of Waterdeep to accept him as one of their own. Ruldrin himself is a bladesinger of no small skill.
  • Elmeela Sandhor: Consort (Renown 9) • 88 years. Bessaer's half-elven bride and the mother of his three children was a Neverwinter orphan taken in by some of the farmers on Sandhor lands as extra help. As a young man, he encountered her and fell quite in love with her, and she with him. Elmeela is very woodwise, which she jokes is part of her half-wood elf lineage, but in truth is simply a result of her hard study and observant nature. The farm stewards report to her directly, and she makes all the decisions on dealing with those holdings for the family. Elmeela is still somewhat overwhelmed by Waterdhavian society, in truth.
  • Nylm Sandhor: Firstborn son (Renown 7) • 43 years. Ruldrin and Elmeela's oldest son is a ranger and disinclined to have anything to do with Waterdeep. He acts as warden and protector of Sandhor lands, with a small group of rangers and scouts who aid him at that task.
  • Ilyrra Sandhor: Secondborn daughter (Renown 4) • 37 years. Ilyrra is married to Elkar, a farmholder in Sandhor lands, and largely interested only in tending to her farm and family (she has a three-year-old). She has not thrown off her family name, but neither has Elkar taken hers. They seem content in their prosperous farm, which Elmeela visits often.
  • Eleur Sandhor: Heir and thirdborn son (Renown 3) • 25 years. The youngest and appointed heir, Eleur fits well into Waterdhavian society. One of just a few of the half-elves among the elite, Eleur knows how to leverage the assumptions about his blood to his own benefit – and knows well how a certain subset of his peers find his elfin cheekbones and delicately pointed ears to be utterly irresistible. He is a member of the clique known as Corellon's Bastards, a small group of other half-elves of noble blood.

Known Faction Perks

Scions and agents of House Sandhor in good standing might receive the following benefits:

  • Living Quarters: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House are given quarters within the House's Waterdhavian villa appropriate to their role in the House.
  • Living Expenses/Salaries: Renown 1+. Those in good standing with the House also receive a stipend of 1gp plus 5sp per day per point of Rank. This is not actual cash, but simply familial credit towards payment of Lifestyle costs. This stacks with the same kind of familial credit received from the Waterdhavian Noble Background (see Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide).
  • Business Opportunities: Renown 3+. Lynchpins to the House's operations receive access to a variety of business opportunities within the House's money-making endeavors. This is handled as "Running a Business" in downtime months. This does not incur a business expense, but if too many of the character rolls results that end in a loss of money, he can and will find his Rank in the House reduced.
  • Heir or Consort (Title): Renown 3+. The holder of one of the legal titles Heir of House and Consort of House, as recorded with the city of Waterdeep, is entitled to an additional 2gp per day in familial credit, per the "Living Expenses/Salaries" entry above. The heir is also accorded certain privileges within the legal system of Waterdeep, including the ability to speak on behalf of his House in some legal proceedings and the like.
  • Wealth of the House: Renown 10. The patriarch of the House is in total control of the House's finances and various holdings, established by the laws of Waterdeep.
